Perhaps South Bend is isolated enough to be the example you're looking for?

As for percentage of current residents born in the metro region, you can probably come quite close by simply inverting the population growthrate.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4058766287077382431.post-43337788945273559082011-08-23T16:14:59.425-04:002011-08-23T16:14:59.425-04:00There is a good amount of urban sociology that dea...There is a good amount of urban sociology that deals with the suburbs as part of an urban system. The "Los Angeles" school comes to mind as a group of urbanists who argued that the Western city is better understood as a diffuse structure. Molotch, Davis, Bear, and Scott come to mind here. In Europe, scholars often talk about a "peri-urban" zone which is more easily visualized when they specify that is is a mix of city and country. But it is true that even many urban sociologists who discuss the suburbs are more interested in the city. "Crabgrass Fronteir" comes to mind as serious nonfiction work about the suburbs.Eric Titusnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4058766287077382431.post-68458425961017553672011-08-23T11:28:53.630-04:002011-08-23T11:28:53.630-04:00Gabe, you're right. Gary or Fort Wayne are better examples from Indiana.

I wonder if there is an available data source that would allow measurement of this feature for metropolitan areas: percentage of current residents born in the metro region.Dan Littlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15953897221283103880noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4058766287077382431.post-7088949228644118932011-08-23T11:05:08.846-04:002011-08-23T11:05:08.846-04:00Indianapolis has a city population of over 800,000...Indianapolis has a city population of over 800,000 and a metropolitan population of almost 2,000,000.
